Malaysia is a
young country with a young population.
In fact,out of a total population of 19 million,over 7 million are between the
ages of 15-34 years and this trend is anticipated to continue until the turn of
the century.
With a keen eye on its economic future and to sustain its social stability,the
country is galvanising and moulding young people with the principles and
character to carry on the momentum of success.
More so as
independent surveys and media reports have brought to light the disturbing news
that many people appear to lack the motivation and drive to be a part of
Malaysia success story.Instead,many were falling victim to the many social
ills.
In response to
this national concern,a strategic mission for young people was formulated to:
- Instil a sence of
pride,belonging and confidence
- Promote a sence of unity,loyalty
and patriotism
- Cultivate a thirst for knowledge
and the motivation for self-improvement
- Inculcate an appreciation for
high moral values and positives attitudes
In short,the inculcation of these principles were to instil in our young
people a lasting;ambition and community spirit.To make them a national
resource,the future hope of the nation.
From this,Rakan Muda (or Young Partner) was born.
THE RAKAN MUDA VISION
Vision Rakan Muda
is "A New Vision for the Youth" ,a part from the development of
Vision 2020, Malaysia's blueprint for social and economic development for the
country.
As a physical
entity,Rakan Muda is an all-encompassing,innovative Youth Focal Point-the first
and biggest of its kind in the country-created to effectively capture the
imagination of our youth.To make them purposeful and active contributors in
nation building.And to make them dynamic partners in Malaysia's development
goals and strategies.
To begin with,10
lifestyle programmes that have strong youth-appeal were identified and
developed.They are : Rakan Sukan (Sports),Rakan Wajadiri (Martial Arts),Rakan
Rekacipta (Innovations),Rakan Wirausaha dan Wiramahir (Entrepreneurship),Rakan
Kecergasan (Physical Fitness),Rakan Masyarakat (Community Service),Rakan
Rekreasi (Recreation) and Briged Rakan Muda (Uniformed Corps).These programmes
were designed to channel the energies of our young people towards
healthy,productive and interesting activities.
A strong visual
identity was then developed for Rakan Muda - a logo based on the concept of
"Reach for the Stars".The Stars symbolise
excellence,success,achievement - positive attributes for young people to
follow.A spirited,motivating action line was also devised - "Yakin
Boleh" meaning "Yes,we can!" - as their ralllying cry.
This spirited
call resounded around the nation for the first time on 29 October 1994,when the Prime Minister,YAB Dato Seri Dr Mahathir
Mohamad,launched Rakan Muda together with one of the lifestyle
programmes,Rakan Wajadiri. Within six months of the
launch,over half a million young Malaysians registered to participate in the
programme.And the numbers are still growing!
The
objectives of Rakan Muda are four-fold. They are to:
- Strengthen the
family unit and to foster stronger community awareness.Furthermore ,it is
to assure the older generation that their children and grandchildren will
learn and cultivate the age-old value of intergrity,determination and
friendship.
- Assure the nation
that a path has been created where the future leaders of Malaysia will
sustain the growth,stability and respect the country currently enjoys.
- Provide Malaysian
youth opportunities to translate youthful dreams into tangible goals by
motivating them to adopt positive attitudes,encouraging them to acquire
knowledge and new skills to broaden their perspectives and to pursue
excellence.
- Make our youth aware
of their roles and moal responsibilities in nation building.
Ultimately,the Rakan Muda seeks to provide our youth the direction which
gives them the strength and confidence to face future challenges.

 A healthy mind builds a healthy body.
By taking up a lifestyle centered on health and fitness, the youth will be
prepared both mentally and physically to face the challenges of tomorrow.
This lifestyle programme exposes them to the finer points of athletics,
aerobic exercise, endurance tests, mass gym routines and the excitement of
physical fitness. Participation in these programmes will inculcate a respect
for the mind and the body and the will to resist the many social ills.
Factors, which are essential to them enjoying a long and productive
life.

 One of the main aims of Vision 2020 is
the realization of a Caring Society. To help the young people understand
their role in society, this lifestyle programme exposes them to every aspect
of social service. They will gain the leadership skills to make them assets
to the community, particularly in times of crisis. Exposure in paramedical
care like first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) will hold them
in good steed. As young leaders they can choose to learn counseling skills to
mentor the young or develop the talents necessary to guide the handicapped.
Whatever they learn, it will be of benefit to the neighborhood and the
community at large

 The youth of today are dynamic and full of
enthusiasm. They need outlets through which to direct their energies. A
wonderful way is the taking up of a healthy recreational activity. Mountain
climbing, canoeing and indoor activities like chess or scrabble or
traditional pastimes like top spinning are amongst the many interesting
activities lined up to engage the youth in fun-filled activities. With their
family or friends, they can rediscover the charms of outdoor camping; learn
how to master the game of chess. These activities will teach them the values
of self-discipline, give them the motivation to take on bigger and better
challenges. But more importantly, it allows for the strengthening of the
family unit.

sports-loving nation. Many of our sports teams are world-class, winning
medals and trophies in the international competitions. More young people are
needed to power our sporting teams in the future. From water and racquet
sports, athletics, bowling right up to weight training the youth can try it
all. They will see how sports is fun when playing in teams or with friends
around. Participation also many avenues for self-development and personal
satisfaction by giving our young people opportunities to strike gold.

 Culture, like a fingerprint, reflects the
uniqueness of one of national identity. As Malaysia is culturally rich, there
are many opportunities for participants to express themselves creatively. It
gives those who are artistically inclined and those who are interested in the
arts, avenues through which they can display their natural talents.
Participants can develop their creative writing skills, refine their talent
for calligraphy or learn about theater. They can also take up new skills like
batik printing, photography or even explore new dimensions in visual art. No
matter what they choose, participants will be given every avenue to explore
and develop their interest.

diverse natural heritage. This programme aims at opening the eyes of
participants to the conservation and appreciation of our natural environment.
As there is no better teacher than experience, participants will get the
opportunity to involve themselves in everything from camping out in the heart
of the world's oldest rainforest to learning about our precious flora and
fauna that exists in the country's ecosystems. Under the guidance of experts,
the youth will rediscover the magic of historical sites, virgin forests,
ancient caves right up to the study of the cosmos as well as understanding
the importance of conservation and preservation of our natural heritage.

簡単に言うと本当の目的はマレーシアの若者に長くつつ”いて，野心とコミユニティ−のスピリットを教え込むためにＲＡＫＡＮ ＭＵＤＡをやってきました．そしてその若者を将来の国家の希望者として，すごく役に立つ活動であります．
